Our Story

A little more about us...

How did you meet?

Nellie: We were set up on a date by a mutual friend...(shout out to you, Kelly Sage). Chris was coaching baseball and after some finagling by Kelly, I attended a game. After the game, Chris and I spent a little time talking, while his players yelled encouragement from the bus. ðŸ˜Š Chris asked me out and the rest was history!

Chris: I was coaching JV baseball at Bellefontaine and one of the players' mom, who knew Nellie, suggested that we go out since we were both single. After a game, in which we came from behind and won, she introduced us and we talked for a few minutes and planned a date. When I returned to the bus, the team cheered with enthusiasm.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Nellie: I like to spend time with Chris and cuddling with our dogs. I watch a lot of HGTV and start a lot of projects that may or may not get completed. When I need time to relax, there is nothing better than a good book!

Chris: I enjoy spending time with Nellie and our dogs. I also like watching sports and reading about coaching, leadership and history.

What is one thing you would change from your wedding day?

Nellie and Chris: When it came time to exchange rings, Chris put the wedding band on the wrong hand. We didn't realize it until after the exchange and we were giving flowers to Mary and Nellie quickly switched hands.

In what ways has your struggle with infertility changed your life?

Nellie: Although it has been a difficult situation to overcome, struggling with infertility has brought us closer to The Lord. There were times, at the beginning, where I turned from God and questioned why he inflicted us with such a thorn in our side. It wasn't until we were invited to Quest Church in West Liberty and began getting more involved with other believers that God really changed our hearts and we felt pulled toward Him. I truly believe that had we not gotten involved in the church, we would not have made it through this time.

Chris: Through this struggle it has strengthened our relationship together, as well as, strengthening our relationship with God.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

Nellie: I would want Pope Francis and Malala Yousafzai. I think Pope Francis has been a great Christian leader who shows compassion and understanding to those around him. Malala's strength, courage and resilience are an inspiration to me.

Chris: I would choose George Washington, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Tecumseh. All great leaders who shaped our country.
