His plan > my plan
The Cardinal football team started summer workouts this week in preparation for the 2017 fall season and I am very excited and eager to be working with the boys once again.
Two years ago when the head football coaching position came open at New Bremen I felt very compelled to look into the situation and I can't really explain why. I think many times in life we get an urge to do something and this was one of those times.
At the time, I had been praying for the Lord to show me where and what to do next in terms of my job and career. Maybe the urge was the Lord whispering in my ear.
In case you are not aware, the New Bremen football program has not had a lot of success on the field in recent years in terms of victories. I knew that it would be a challenge to turn things around but the more I became familiar with situation, the kids, the people and the community the more I felt that this job was what I wanted to do. I started to theorize that the Lord was bringing me to New Bremen so I could help the kids and the school turn the football program around.
About a month ago a few members of the football team presented me with the framed picture shown above along with a significant donation toward our adoption fund. The players, on their own, had decided to design, organize and sell bracelets to raise money.
Talk about being humbled. Here, I thought that I was coming to New Bremen to help the football program out and the kids in it; turns out that it was the kids and the football program of New Bremen that helped me out. I guess that's why they say if you want to make the Lord laugh just tell him your plans.
I am so thankful and appreciative to be a part of the New Bremen schools and community. I feel like the luckiest coach in America in having such great kids to teach and coach on a daily basis. I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us in the future!
